A different view of Friday Night Live
My name Scott Verville. I own American Tattoo Studio at 366 W. Main St. in Waukesha. I have been in business here for 32 years now and have seen many changes in downtown, none more damaging to my business than this Friday Night Live and other foolish street closings. They cut off traffic to my store every time which causes me to lose business every time.
My business being seasonal, spring and summer are my normal busy times. If I don’t make enough during these times I can’t make it through the winter months.
I have complained many times to my zombie alderman as well as the city. They say it promotes the downtown which is a bunch of crap. It promotes drinking and loitering as most of the businesses are not even open during these times. Some that are – suffer.
In short, it discriminates against businesses that rely on traffic, while promoting those that are in the artsy drinking crowd. I guess if you’re not in their little “clique” you dont count.
I own the building I’m in so I have a stake in what goes on here. I’m not a prude; I don’t care if people want to drink and have a good time, but why not do it in Cutler park instead of shutting down my business?
If you ever want to see what I mean, come down here around 7 p.m. on Friday night in front of my store. Thanks for your article, maybe it will help. Did you see the sound off section where the woman says the business owners should keep their noses out of it and let the city handle it….RIGHT???
