Another reason children should be seen and not heard
As B. Daniel Blatt points out at the Gay Patriot blog, some mother sends her 8-year-old up to say something to Michelle Bachmann and we’re all supposed to praise the supposed precociousness of the child instead of criticizing the mother for not having the guts to make the statement herself.
It is legitimate to ask the candidate about her views on homosexuality. It’s pathetic when a mother puts up her son to speak on her behalf. And it’s telling that the media eager to make a martyr of the boy don’t call the mother out on her cowardice.
If some conservative parent sent an eight-year-old up to President Obama to tell him that even a third-grader knows there are only 50 states, do you think that the media would fawn over the child or (correctly) call out the parents for teaching the urchin ill manners?
At least Bachmann didn’t take the opportunity to quote the late Rodney Dangerfield, “He’s a good boy I tell ya. Now I know why tigers eat their young.”
