Brookfielders unite! You have nothing to lose but the trains!
The Brookfield Common Council is holding a public meeting to discuss the proposed high-speed rail line’s station on Tuesday, August 17th.
Brookfield-Tuesday, August 17, 2010
Common Council Meeting- Meeting starts at 7:45. Public comment is the first item on the agenda at 7:45.
2000 N. Calhoun Road, Brookfield, WI
Supporters of high-speed rail are not happy about the number of rail opponents that showed up at the last meeting. The Midwest High Speed Rail Association is distributing talking points and Transit Now is trying to round up people to attend.
The proposed train station for Brookfield is well away from the commerce on Highway 18 and far away from Brookfield Square.
More importantly, the proposed train station will cost $17.9 million, and the feds will only cough up $5 million of the cost. The operating costs of the station will also fall on Brookfield residents.
If the experience of Milwaukee’s train station is a reliable guide, Brookfield residents have good reason to oppose the proposed station.
