Democratic Dane County Judge doesn’t care about Republican legislators

Dane County Circuit Court Judge Stephen Ehlke accepted a plea agreement worked out with Miles Kristan, the protestor that dumped a beer on State Representative Robin Vos. According to the Wisconsin State Journal article, Ehlke said Kristan’s case shouldn’t be treated any differently because of the political overtones of the case.

Kristan tracked Vos down in a Madison bar and made a premeditated, politically motivated attack on a member of the state legislature. Of course it should have been treated differently, and it probably would have been except Vos is a Republican.

Of course, since Stephen Ehlke donated $1325 to Former Attorney General Peg Lautenschlager from 2001 through 2006, he probably didn’t think a little spilled alcohol was that big of a deal.

I bet Kristan is happy that Governor Jim Doyle appointed Ehlke to the bench in 2009 after Madison voters rejected Ehlke six months earlier.

Let’s pray that the next time a Republican member of the state legislature is attacked in Madison – and there will be a next time – it isn’t more serious than a thrown beer.
