Democrats have amazing timing

Coincidences hard to believe

It’s just an amazing coincidence that Milwaukee County decided to release more emails from the first John Doe investigation on Tuesday. It’s just amazing that the timing coincided with new ads launched by Mary Burke’s campaign attacking Gov. Scott Walker over the John Doe probes.

It’s an even more amazing coincidence since Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele, his wife and his campaign fund have all donated to Burke’s candidacy. It’s enough to remind you that Abele is a Democrat who employed disgraced former Democratic Party spokesman Graeme Zielinski as a political consultant.

It’s just one of those amazing coincidences that make people to say, “That’s amazing!”

It’s also one of those amazing coincidences that show how the second John Doe probe was a hypocritical abuse of power by Milwaukee County District Attorney John Chisholm. If Chisholm was really interested in curbing political coordination because it is supposedly an in-kind political contribution, Chisholm would announce a John Doe probe into Abele’s office tomorrow.

I bet a document dump of Abele’s emails would make interesting reading.

For Abele, if the John Doe email dump is not just an amazing coincidence, using county resources to campaign against Walker is a lot cheaper than the $250,000 he wasted in a clandestine effort to oust Sheriff David Clarke.

Since taking office as Milwaukee County executive, Abele has tried to appear more conservative than the rogues’ gallery on the County Board. Granted, it’s not a high standard.

But in the last year Abele has done his best to remind everyone that he is at heart a liberal Democrat. This document dump just two weeks before the election is not going to endear him to Republicans in the Legislature.

The next time Abele picks up the phone to ask the Legislature to help him fight it out with the County Board, legislative Republicans might just direct him to the Assembly minority leader’s office. In an amazing coincidence, that person will be one of Abele’s fellow Democrats. They also won’t be able to help him.

*** Speaking of legislative Republicans that are an FOA (Friend of Abele), state Rep. Joe Sanfelippo is being challenged by Milwaukee County Supervisor John Weishan. Sanfelippo’s district runs from West Allis in Milwaukee County into New Berlin in Waukesha County.

Sanfelippo recently called for Weishan to reimburse taxpayers for a mailing that Weishan did at Milwaukee County expense into Sanfelippo’s district, including the Waukesha County portion.

The mailing was about a legislative reform of Milwaukee County’s mental health program. Weishan was opposed to the legislation, which passed nearly unanimously through both houses of the legislature.

In an amazing coincidence, Weishan announced his candidacy for state Assembly against Sanfelippo, running as a Democrat, shortly after the mailing was sent. Despite the amazing timing of the mailing sent at taxpayer expense into Waukesha County, Milwaukee County District Attorney John Chisholm has so far declined to investigate his fellow Democrat.

I know. It’s just amazing.

Weishan is one of the more dysfunctional members of the Milwaukee County Board. He is hoping to use the Assembly race to avoid the effect of a new law that effectively makes the County Board a part-time job.

And no, it’s not an amazing coincidence that the person who pushed through the bill that changed the Milwaukee County Board to part time is Sanfelippo. Sanfelippo at one time was a colleague of Weishan’s on the Milwaukee County Board, and he saw firsthand that the state Legislature needed to make some changes.

The voters in New Berlin and West Allis don’t have to believe that it was just an amazing coincidence Weishan sent a mailing outside Milwaukee County just before announcing his candidacy. On Election Day, they can make up for the failure of Chisholm to investigate his fellow Democrat by keeping Weishan out of the state Legislature.
