Did Herb Kohl approve this message?

I mentioned before about Democratic spokesman Graeme Zielinski wanting to use Eric Hovde’s personal wealth as an issue. Now it’s being echoed in the blogosphere.

Seriously, Democrats, are you going to really try to use this as an issue in the race to succeed Senator Herb Kohl, one of the richest men in the Senate?

Sen. Herb Kohl (D-Wis.) is certainly one of the wealthiest lawmakers on Capitol Hill. As owner of the NBA’s Milwaukee Bucks, Kohl has a $254 million asset on his hands, according to Forbes magazine.

Kohl made his fortune via inheritance, on Wall Street and by exploiting cheap, minimum-wage retail labor. He’s like the evil trifecta of capitalism, yet Democrats are going to campaign against a possible successor, Hovde, by complaining about his money.

In the spirit of solidarity with Congressman Tammy Baldwin (D-Madison) Kohl could abandon the team plane and try to squeeze all of his Milwaukee Bucks players into a Chevy Volt. That would at least demonstrate some self-awareness among Democrats.

Even better, Democrats could start taking Ed Garvey’s advice. After all, he’s run for statewide office (1986 Kasten, 1988 Kohl, 1998 Thompson) as often as Kathleen Falk.
