How disgusting and low will the Democrats go?

Liberal bloggers have reached a new low in this recall campaign. Without any verification they began spreading a false story that Governor Scott Walker fathered a child out of wedlock in college.

Of course the story isn’t true. It was the wrong Scott Walker and the woman involved denies it was the governor.

What’s next, Democrats?

Update! Former Feingold flak Jud Lounsbury is also pushing this disgusting story. No Limits to their depravity. – JW 6/3/12 1:21 PM

Update 2! 6/3/12 1:50 PM

Steve Hanson at Uppity Wisconsin is defending their decision to publish it.

We don’t have any direct confirmation of this story, and it may well turn out not to be true. It is only an allegation, but it is an allegation by someone who one would really expect to be credible. We were very much tempted to sit on this story, since it is obviously open to questioning, particularly considering the timing. We understand all of that, and we also understand that in the grand scheme of things, there are much more important reasons to consider Scott Walker unfit for office (about which you will hear more in the next two days). Although this is nor originally our story, and comes from the Wisconsin Citizens Media Coop, I’m not going to try to chicken out by saying it’s their responsibilty. We’ve published it here, and take responsibility for the fact that we’ve done so.

Clearly many will not believe this story about Walker’s possible behavior as a college student, and of course you are all welcome to your doubt. I personally have doubts about this story, and expect no less from our readers. But this story is currently flooding the Internet, and whether you choose to believe it or not it is going to be the subject of debate around water coolers everywhere tomorrow. This is not our normal style, and it will not become our normal style to report on this sort of story. But it’s out there, and a big topic of discussion, as the amount of traffic to this story this morning demonstrates. I’m not at all certain that pretending that it is not out there is helpful, It is only one of a large number of stories about Scott Walker’s credibility and trustworthiness, and most of those are more credible than this.

In other words, we have no idea if it’s true. We even have doubts that it’s true. But because it’s about Scott Walker, we’ll print it.
