Politics shaken, not stirred
I’m going to lose some weight this year and then start the new year by joining Brien Lee for a dip in the pool.
I’d say, “Somebody has to do it,” but they do it every year.

I’m betting you were being sarcastic. However, if you were not and am actually considering a plunge next year … don’t do it, James. We’re friends. Losing some weight is a good thing, but consider these two points:
Q: Is Winter Swimming Dangerous?
A: The strain placed on the heart is not likely to be a problem for a healthy, fit person but may be dangerous for those with underlying heart disease or hypertension.
Q: What is Cold Water Shock
A: Rapid cooling of the skin triggers various heart and breathing responses. The heart rate can increase by 50% and blood pressure increase can increase to 175/93. Although a substantial strain on the heart, these changes are not likely to be a problem for a healthy, fit person but may be dangerous for those with underlying heart disease or hypertension.
I’m being serious.

I do have a weight problem. I know, who would believe it? Anyway, the only way I would make the plunge is if I’m in definitely better shape than I am in right now. Obviously if I’m in the same shape then as I am now, I think it would be stupid of me to jump in, if for no other reason I might be mistaken for a beached whale and pushed back out to sea. (That said, no heart disease that I am aware of, no high blood pressure. Just normal signs of aging in the joints and vision.)
