Mike Tate for DPW chairman

10

Mike Tate has formally announced his intention to run for re-election as DPW chairman. In the press release posted at WisPolitics.com, Tate lists all of his accomplishments as the state chairman for the Democratic Party.

Mike Tate's list of accomplishments

The good news for Tate is that he already has the endorsement of every Republican who ran for office and won in the last cycle. That’s a lot of endorsements.

Brother Wiggy, you may be acting locally but you are not thinking globally. If our own Reince Priebus would make a most excellent chairman of the National Republican Party, Wisconsin’s Mike Tate must ascend to the top of the national Democrat(ic) party! Both must do for the nation what they did for Wisconsin. They could save on airfare.

Tate has been promoted after every failure….

  3. Jeff Christensen says:

With that logic, the Republican Party of Wisconsin would’ve thrown Reince Priebus out after the 2008 elections…

    James Wigderson Reply:

When Priebus took control of the RPW, the party was already in a downward spiral. Wisconsin was being written off as a blue state. The only government bodies in Republican hands were the state Supreme Court and the Assembly, and the Assembly was hanging by a thread in a bad Republican year. Look where the Republicans are now.

When Tate took over the state Democratic Party, Democrats controlled everything. Now they’ve lost nearly everything, including a “safe” congressional seat and a “safe” Senate seat. The Assembly Speaker and the Senate Majority Leader lost their re-election bids.

    Jeff Christensen Reply:

James, you know better than this. The job of the chair is not to run campaigns, but rather create & build the infrastructure of the organization. The job of the campaign is to run the campaign.

You have no idea how well the internal workings of the party operate and are completely speaking in the dark on this one.

    John Foust Reply:

No, he’s been to the bar at Country Springs many times.

    James Wigderson Reply:

Jeff, I think I know something about how a political party works and its limitations having actually worked on political campaigns, etc.

That said, I’m not going to place all of the Democratic losses on Mike Tate, but look at the record. Wisconsin had the most complete sweep from Blue to Red in the country. Comparatively speaking, Tate does not have a good record.

Let’s look at the race where Tate had the heaviest hand, Lassa v. Duffy. How did the party’s preventing a primary work out? if you were to ask some of your Madison counterparts, they’re not too happy.

Look, if the Democrats want to keep Tate, please, don’t let me stop them. He gives me plenty of material to work with and he’s been great for the conservative cause.

  4. Jeff Christensen says:

James, I’ve never doubted the fact that you understand how parties work.

However what I am doubting is your knowledge of the operations/infrastructure of the current Wisconsin Democratic Party. And quite honestly, I’d be concerned as a Democrat if you did have a solid grasp of the decision making.

I’ll just say this: I’m not one to play light inside of the party and have no problem letting Madison know my opinions. With that being said, Tate has really done an outstanding and if you notice I’m on his list of supporters for re-election.
