I’ve made a few jokes about President Barack Obama’s birth certificate, but I don’t think this is going to help

Democratic Gov. Neil Abercrombie wants to find a way to release more information about President Barack Obama’s Hawaii birth and dispel conspiracy theories that he was born elsewhere.

Abercrombie was a friend of Obama’s parents and knew him as a child, and is deeply troubled by the effort to cast doubt on the president’s citizenship.

The newly elected governor will ask the state attorney general’s office about what can be done to put an end to questions about Obama’s birth documentation from Aug. 4, 1961, spokeswoman Donalyn Dela Cruz said Tuesday..

I think some people will just remain convinced that Obama isn’t a citizen even if the afterbirth can be produced with a chain of custody documenting the source, DNA tests, and video of the birth with a “Welcome to Hawaii” sign in the background. Oh yeah, and Don Ho playing the music on the video soundtrack.

A Democratic governor with family ties to Obama offering to put an end to the rumors is only going to agitate the conspiracy theorists even more.

It’s no different than any other conspiracy theory in it’s persistent adherents, and certainly less harmful than the conspiracy theories concerning the moon landing, the assassination of John F Kennedy, and the 9/11 attacks.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to check a rumor that Obama was really created in a test tube in Roswell, N.M., by the CIA under orders from the Tri-Lateral Commission.
