Probably cooked up in some back room

6

Eric Hovde has not even announced that he is running for U.S. Senate yet and already the dirty tricks are starting. At least, I assume this blog is a dirty trick cooked up in some back room. Whoever it is, they are advertising the blog on Google Ads, which is how I stumbled across it. (I should thank them for the money.)

I mean, come on. They overplayed it a bit with the cool house in Washington DC. It sounds like something I would write. Or celebrating six months in Wisconsin.

At the bottom it says, “Not a candidate or a candidate committee.”

Hovde moved back to Madison last summer. Lived in DC for the previous quarter century, give or take. Based on his philanthropic efforts, he certainly seems like a compassionate and worldly kind of guy. Not sure he’ll be able to get past the carpetbagger stuff.

At some point, the GOP probably has to get past looking for wealthy self-funders as its torchbearers. Doesn’t really mesh well with that whole faux-populist, anti-establishment fervor the party’s got going on these days.

That blog obviously a dirty trick. The question is, who did it?

    James Wigderson Reply:

I suspect the truth will out ere long and the author will be embarrassed accordingly.

  3. Badger says:

    Did YOU make the site?

    James Wigderson Reply:

No, my days as a political operative are long over.

    John Foust Reply:

You know, because the McGyver Institute is a non-partisan think tank that by some coincidence on any given morning has the same talking points as the WisGOP.
