As long as we’re on the subject of Waukesha and it’s interesting mayor, let’s clear up a few misconceptions that I have heard on Mark Belling’s show and elsewhere.
1) Tuesday on Belling’s show, he said the mayor was elected to stop the Great Lakes water application, and now he’s surprised that residents of Waukesha [...]

While it’s tempting to stand athwart a pipeline and yell “stop!” (to steal a phrase), there is also a maxim that missed: “Where there is no alternative there is no…” Problem. Mayor Jeff Scrima has continued to stand athwart building a pipeline to Lake Michigan out of an inordinate fear that someday [...]

Last night the Common Council put the mayor’s appointments for the Landmarks Commission on hold, not rejected as I reported before. Brian Running withdrew his name. The other two appointees were James Healy and Adam Neylon.
Adam Neylon works for Congressman Jim Sensenbrenner, was the Republican Party of Waukesha County youth coordinator, and is [...]

When we say we have a weak mayor in Waukesha, we aren’t messing around. Tonight, Mayor Jeff Scrima discovered the hard way just how weak he is. The City Administrator is answerable to the Common Council, not the mayor. (I argued strongly against this and lost the argument.) The one hold [...]

Former Waukesha Freeman “Citizen of the Year” Jay Walt looks at Jeff Scrima record as mayor so far and says Scrima has become a time bomb in need of defusing.
Who would have scripted this mess? Progress comes from a unified vision and respect between parties. Integrity is recognized when a person’s actions reflect their promises. [...]

Waukesha’s water application has been put on hold by the DNR while the mayor pursues unicorns and mermaids. Good thing there was an 18-month cushion built into the plan.
State Department of Natural Resources Secretary Matthew Frank told Mayor Jeff Scrima Wednesday in a letter that the department will not begin reviewing Waukesha’s application for [...]

Senator Russ Feingold is out there again trying to solicit support for a Democratic mayor. Last time it was Larry Nelson of Waukesha, whose last day on the job is this Tuesday. Now Feingold is supporting Tom Barrett for Governor, urging people to get a bumper sticker.

My good friend Tom Barrett is [...]

Laurel Walker in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel echoes my thoughts on one of the actions by the Common Council Thursday evening,
Jeff Scrima may have gotten his first civics lesson as Waukesha’s mayor-elect Thursday on governing in a weak mayor-strong council system.
Scrima appealed to the man he beat, Larry Nelson, to hold up a dozen important [...]

When I wrote yesterday’s column for the Waukesha Freeman (still just 50 cents, a bargain to see my picture every Thursday), I mentioned how the mayoral race was largely a matter of Republicans and Democrats in the supposedly non-partisan election.
The most important issue of the race was the rejection of Nelson’s Democratic Party affiliation. Four [...]

Winds of change sweep through City Hall
Several factors worked against Nelson
(James Wigderson is a blogger publishing at http://www.wigderson.com and a Waukesha resident. His column runs Thursdays in The Freeman.) (Editor’s note: Regarding the alleged hanging up on a reporter, Scrima has claimed the disconnection was involuntary due [...]
