It’s 2010, the year someone loses a contact.
Once again, it’s time to shake the magic martini shaker and see into the future. Four or five ought to do it. If we stare at the olive in the glass long enough, a vision slowly appears. A vision of things to come, and another refill. This year, [...]
Time once again to look back at the predictions of last January. Robert Heinlein’s character Lazarus Long said that Cassandra did not get nearly the kicking she deserved. Well, I hope I deserve better.
My predictions, 29 for 2009, are below, and the results are in italics.
1. Beer and alcohol prices will increase substantially due to [...]
Finally made it to a Milwaukee Brewer game with my son this season. Some thoughts from Saturday night’s game:
When Jeff Suppan comes to the plate, the stadium sound system plays, “Locomotive Breath” by Jethro Tull. Did Suppan lose a bet or something?
In the shuffling madness
Of the locomotive breath,
Runs the all-time loser,
Headlong to his death.
He feels the piston [...]
The splash pool isn’t bad to start. But this isn’t “Kalahari Park”. It’s Miller Park, as in Miller Beer. And they’re not the Milwaukee Sliders. They’re the Milwaukee Brewers. Maybe the Milwaukee Brewers should go with something a little more appropriately themed.
How about having Bernie Brewer slide into a giant [...]
Milwaukee Journal Sentinel headline: “Nelson opts for free agency”
Sorry Waukesha Republicans. Wrong Nelson.
The Milwaukee Brewers signed a new pitcher, Braden Looper. The official e-mailed announcement doesn’t show much enthusiasm about the signing. Here’s an excerpt:
Looper, 34, is one of a number of veteran free-agent pitchers to draw some interest this winter from Milwaukee, a list that also included at various points Randy Johnson, John Smoltz, Randy Wolf [...]
While it’s good news the Brewers have apparently signed all-time MLB saves leader Trevor Hoffman, don’t go planning your World Series tailgate parties just yet. No longer the hard thrower he once was, Hoffman now relies on a nasty changeup to get the job done. He should help, but there is a lot more [...]
Plus incentives. Tom “reliable source” Haudricourt reports that the deal between the Brewers and reliever Trevor Hoffman is completed, and Hoffman is expected to earn $6 million, plus another possible $1.5 million in incentives, this year. It is only a one-year deal.
I really have a hard time seeing any downside to this move [...]
Predictions, Predictions, Predictions.
Once again, it’s time to shake the magic martini shaker and see into the future. Four or five ought to do it. If we stare at the olive in the glass long enough, a vision slowly appears. A vision of things to come, and another refill. This year, I decided to keep the [...]
Each year at this time I peer into the magic crystal ball, and each year I just see my reflection. But I still make predictions. Using the typical sportswriter’s accuracy for predicting NFL games as my benchmark, I don’t do half badly. On the other hand, have you noticed how few sportswriters [...]
