Just how crowded is the Walker victory party?
Still here at the Country Springs Hotel in Waukesha. I’m not kidding when I wrote that I grabbed the last chair at a table.
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel’s Patrick McIlheran was last seen trying to make his way closer to the stage. I have no idea at this point whether he’s going to make it out alive. The Waukesha Freeman’s Joe Petrie went moments before him and disappeared into the mass of people.
It’s like watching the ballplayers enter the cornfield in Field of Dreams.
I’m in the “other room” where they keep bouncing between newscasts and the crowd cheers every early return like they’re watching a basketball game – with all the scoring being done by the home team. One of the news stations went to a live report from Serb Hall where the Barrett people are still optimistic of victory. I noticed there was plenty of room for people to grab a seat and eat a fish fry if Serb Hall is serving tonight.
Meanwhile at the Walker victory party, the line at the bar is still six people deep.
