Noise police

Saw this item in the police blotter among the other ridiculous items:

9:21 p.m. – A man asked officers to approach a bar in the 300 block of West Main Street on foot so they could hear how loud the live music was playing. Police asked the band to close the doors to the section where they were playing music.

9:21 PM? Are they serious? What time do they go to bed downtown?

I thought part of the joys of living downtown was the sounds as well as the view? Part of what gets people into a bar with live music is the sound of the music. We already have ridiculous rules about signage (and I mean ridiculous).

What are these people going to do when Taylor’s Peoples Park has rooftop seating? Require a sign asking patrons to whisper? Oh wait, that has to go through the sign committee, too.

What are they going to do if we build a convention center and these big crowds suddenly materialize? Okay, I’m skeptical it’s going to happen but, in theory, what would they do?

Just last night at Freeman Friday Night Live I was wondering why it doesn’t run until 10:00 PM instead of only 8:30 PM. Sadly, I have my answer.
