Our mayor needs to go back to business school
Scott Bittler makes an excellent point about the opportunity lost by Waukesha Mayor Jeff Scrima when he decided to boycott President Barack Obama’s visit to our city because Obama and Governor Scott Walker are both “extremists.”
I don’t care about Scrima’s political or nonpolitical motivations for turning down the invitation, but I do care that his perplexing policy makes our city look petty, backward and poorly run. I don’t know much about attracting new business to a community, but I do know that when the President of the United States shows up in your less-than-world-renowned suburb to showcase it internationally as a great place for business, you take your $85,000-a-year, nonpartisan ass a mile down St. Paul Ave. and help him do it. And while you’re at it, bring him a gift basket of goodies from the Rochester Deli, The Steaming Cup, Martha Merrill’s Bookstore and all the other amazing businesses you’re theoretically paid to promote.
He could have even taken a slice of Scrima’s pizza.
