Ron Johnson wins endorsement of the Republican convention in Milwaukee

Previously unknown businessman Ron Johnson just won the endorsement of the Republican Party of Wisconsin at their convention today. Blogger Kevin Binversie posted on Twitter Johnson received 63.9% of the vote on the second round of balloting.

This has to be terrible news for businessman Terrence Wall who failed to gain traction in his race for Senate. Wall’s problems explaining how he did not owe taxes for much of the last decade and just a generally unenthusiastic reception from Republicans encouraged others to enter the race, including former Commerce Secretary Dick Leinenkugel. Leinenkugel withdrew from the race today before the endorsement voting and announced his endorsement of Johnson.

Johnson formally entered the race just last week.

It will be interesting to see if Wall will continue his campaign despite the rejection by the party activists today. Johnson is known for coming out of the Tea Party movement, which leaves Wall little place left to go to look for a coalition of voters in the Republican Primary.
