The Hound of Michigan

The Associated Press is reporting the world’s tallest dog is a Great Dane named Zeus who measures 44 inches at the shoulder, according to the Guiness Book of World Records.

My first reaction was that Zeus wasn’t that big. And then I started thinking about it. My parents bred show Great Danes and they had one named Cadillac (actually Ch Miramor’s Chief Cadillac) who was a very big boy and I want to say he was 38 inches, but I could be wrong.

Most male Great Danes that I remember growing up were 35-36 inches when fully grown. So picture adding another 8 inches onto a fully grown Great Dane and, yeah, Zeus is a pretty big boy.

(I always hated the question, “How much does the dog eat?” The dog eats what he eats. It’s not an elephant. My father used to respond, “Two, maybe three small children a day.”)
