The Jeff Scrima Driving School
The Waukesha Freeman and Waukesha Patch are both reporting on the incident on Thursday in the city hall parking lot when Mayor Jeff Scrima allegedly tried to run down an employee who has complained about him in the past. From this morning’s Waukesha Freeman: (just 75 cents on Saturdays!)
According to police records, Scrima said the man, Derek Knox, was “dazed” and walked out in front of him at about 3:30 p.m. in City Hall’s upper parking lot, and that his own quick stopping was able to prevent a possible injury.
Scrima told police he stopped his vehicle to let Knox walk past in the parking lot, and that Knox “appeared to be unaware of his surroundings.”
“Had I not stopped, he may have walked into my vehicle,” Scrima said in an email shortly after the incident. “Thankfully I did stop and had no contact with Derek.”
However, Knox said Scrima was intentionally aiming his vehicle at him, and that it was a retaliation for various official complaints Knox has filed against Scrima.
“I honestly believe he tried to hit me with his car,” Knox said. “That parking lot is big – he could have gone around or in front of me, and he directed his car right at me and made eye contact.”
What both men agree is that Scrima did not say anything to Knox at the time despite the near collision. Apparently Scrima is not really too concerned if an employee is “dazed” for some reason or nearly became a hood ornament. Knox has filed complaints against the mayor in the past.
The police investigated but found nothing criminal. In the meantime, I would suggest to the mayor a little remedial reading over at Edmunds.com, “Top 10 Tips To Prevent Road Rage.” My favorite, is #3, “Your car is not a therapist.” Nor is it an administrative tool for allegedly dealing with employees who complain about you.
I loved this line, “Had I not stopped, he may have walked into my vehicle.” Classic.
