The taxman rides with you every mile

If you drive a car, I’ll tax the street,

– George Harrison Taxman

The final report is out, and the state DOT’s Wisconsin Transportation and Policy Commission is proposing over $600 million in additional taxes and fees annually. To put that in perspective, Governor Scott Walker’s proposed income tax cut is only $340 million over two years.

I wrote about this insanity, including the proposed fee for miles driven scheme, for the MacIver Institute.

Fortunately, it does appear the governor and Assembly Speaker Robin Vos are not interested in raising taxes and fees – for now.

I’m wondering how long Walker can keep publicly disagreeing with his own DOT, and if he should find a new department head if this keeps up.
