Walker sends Werwie to the DOA
Interesting change in Governor Scott Walker’s administration, and probably overdue. From the press release:
Tom Evenson – Press Secretary for Governor Walker
Evenson previously worked as the Communications Director for State Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald. He has also worked as the Communications Director for the Friends of Scott Walker. Prior to that role, he served as a Communications Assistant in the Office of Governor Walker. His first day will be April 15th.
Cullen Werwie – Agency Communications Liaison at the Department of Administration
Werwie has served as the Governor’s Press Secretary since Governor Walker was elected in 2010. Werwie was an instrumental part of the transition team in his work to develop the Communications Department for the Governor. He previously worked in the Legislature in both the Wisconsin State Senate and State Assembly. His first day will be April 15th.
Given Werwie’s role in the investigation of Kelly Rindfleisch, I had suggested that Walker should have let Werwie go during the John Doe investigation.
Keeping a spokesman like Werwie that was directly involved in the alleged illegal activities just makes it more difficult for Walker’s administration to defend itself. The Walker administration needs to be able to explain what Walker knew about the activities in the county executive’s offices while he was there. Unless the governor breaks his personal silence on the investigation, there is nobody else that can speak for him.
