“We need you at your school, ready to work”
Milwaukee Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Gregory Thornton sent out a letter tonight asking MPS teachers to report to work tomorrow, and threatening disciplinary action if they don’t.

Milwaukee Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Gregory Thornton has released the following message to MPS employees as an open letter:
Dear MPS Staff,
We appreciated your professionalism in reporting to work today as legislators in Madison continue their budget repair work.
On Thursday and Friday, we expect to see you once again, in classrooms, leading instruction.
Failure to report to work will lead to disciplinary action.
This is a posture we truly hate to take, but it is a necessary one.
Our children, many of whom struggle daily with poverty and hunger, truly depend on us.
The mission of Milwaukee Public Schools is to educate children, the children who will appear at our schools when the bell rings in the morning.
We need you at your school, ready to work. Thank you.
Dr. Gregory E. Thornton
