I guess that was an unhappy meal

When you’re using your check cards at McDonald’s they’re now processing them as Point of Sales (POS) transactions. So instead of treating it as a charge transaction (and McDonalds pays a fee to Visa or Mastercard), the transaction goes through just the same as if you typed in a pin number. If your check card was issued by a bank that charges for POS transactions, you get to pay the fee.

For example,  your $1.00 coffee probably just cost you $2.00.

What bugs me is that McDonalds does not even disclose that this is what they’re doing. I know how many calories there are in a Big Mac (and if I cared I wouldn’t be ordering one) but the real cost of the sandwich is hidden from the consumers.
