Like mice running around in the maze

Now they tell us. From today’s Waukesha Freeman:

WAUKESHA — East Moreland Boulevard is closed to through traffic between North Street and Manhattan Drive for a road reconstruction project. There is limited local access to businesses and the Frame Park parking lot, but a detour has been posted between North Street and Manhattan Drive. The project is expected to be completed by October.

It took me an extra 20 minutes to get out of town yesterday when I was trying to get to Madison thanks to this lovely surprise. It sure would be nice if our area had an alderman that actually communicated with residents and kept them informed. The obvious question is why wasn’t this construction timed with the railroad crossing repair that shut down the same Moreland Boulevard bridge last year?

The Moreland Boulevard bridge is closed again. This time you can’t go east from Manhattan Drive or north on Whiterock Avenue past Perkins Avenue.

So given the construction downtown and the closing of this bridge, the city is almost completely bisected. My advice to anyone trying to get to the freeway to head west from Waukesha’s east side (south of the river, for you old-timers) is to use Highway JJ to North or just plan on getting on the freeway at Goerkes Corner.
