Scalia death reminds us picking president is serious business

The death of Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia was discovered the same morning as the most recent Republican presidential debate. Unfortunately, the gravity of the responsibilities of the office of president did not affect the debate the way it should have. At RightWisconsin, I wrote about the importance of Scalia’s death and why it is important for Republicans to get serious about selecting the next president.

When the world needs a reminder that there are weightier matters beyond the world of celebrity and reality television, the fates often provide. When Princess Diana was killed in a tragic car accident, it wasn’t long after that Mother Teresa of Calcutta also passed away. And when the race for the Republican nomination for president careened into the absurd in New Hampshire, Scalia’s passing served to remind us that the next President of the United States will have solemn responsibilities.
