Music and Lyrics

This light comedy has a couple of added advantages. One, of course, is an accurate (if satirical) look back at the 1980s pop culture. The film does not give way to over-exaggeration and we’re given a fun look back at the first days of MTV without looking at a bunch of cartoon figures.

The other advantage is Hugh Grant, who carries the movie through slow moments with his charm and wit, often self-deprecating. If they ever re-make and update The Thin Man, I nominate Grant to fill the role.

In the meantime, we’re given a lighthearted treat with Drew Barrymore comfortably and realistically filling the role of Grant’s neurotic muse. Well worth the price of popcorn.
