Nickolaus won’t resign

The chairman of the Democratic Party in Waukesha, Victor Weers, called on Waukesha County Clerk Kathy Nickolaus to resign. Nickolaus is apologizing again, but no resignation, intending instead to finish out her term. She will not face the voters again until the fall Republican primary in 2012.

For those of you keeping track, that means Nickolaus will be in office during the upcoming special election in the 83rd Assembly district, any recalls that touch Waukesha County this summer, next spring’s primary, next spring’s general election, and the fall partisan primary. Did I miss anything?

That’s a lot of opportunities to screw up more elections.

When the Government Accountability Board issues its report on her office, I wonder how many county officials will ask for her resignation then.

By the way, how embarrassing is it for Nickolaus that the government agency that was sent to try to straighten her mess out was the Government Accountability Board. They’re one of the most dysfunctional government agencies this state has. They couldn’t even set up a voter database right.
