Scrima’s desperate reach right
City of Waukesha Mayor Jeff Scrima took his campaign tour to drink with the elephants Friday night. He stopped in at the monthly Pints and Politics event sponsored by the Waukesha County Republican Party.
As I explain in an article for RightWisconsin, who did Scrima think he was fooling?
Scrima, who finished second in the primary behind challenger Shawn Reilly, must be desperate to think that one visit with some Waukesha County Republicans as they have drinks will repair relations just a couple of weeks before the April 1st election. What possible conservative accomplishments could Scrima have claimed at the Republican gathering?
As mayor, Scrima chased the city administrator (who, even prior to Act 10, was holding down the costs of city employee salaries and benefits) out of town. Left on his own, Scrima proposed a $136 per-household garbage fee to cover the extra spending in the budget he wanted. As it was going to defeat, Scrima suddenly discovered his inner environmentalist and proposed a “pay-as-you-throw” garbage fee scheme in an effort to get liberal support.
The last city budget Scrima presided over had a 2.7% increase in the tax levy. Scrima’s sole contribution to the budget process was to support spending money to cut the grass in the medians on county roads going into the city.
