The Waukesha Expo Center is a-rockin’
I’m here at the Waukesha Expo Center waiting with the supporters of Governor Scott Walker and Lt Gov Rebecca Kleefisch where the crowd is cheering every election return as if the Packers just scored a touchdown. The crowd appears to be nervous but excited.
The who’s-who of Republicans are here. Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus stopped by to shake my hand before his staff cruelly ripped him away to talk to CNN. Former Governor Tommy Thompson was here working press row which is beyond capacity, much like the rest of the hall.
Aaron Rodriguez, the Lovely Doreen from Waukesha and I stole some chairs to create a makeshift workstation along the press barrier. Somewhere some senate staffers are looking for their chairs and a desk that went flying out of there. Aaron and I are debating the ethics of unplugging a local television station so we can use the outlet to charge are laptops (as in, which station?).
The early returns are on a giant television screen showing the Channel 4 newsfeed. The crowd cheers every bit of good news and boos every Democrat that appears. At times it’s deafening.
State Senator Alberta Darling just stopped by to say she’s not worried about the results, saying, “We got this.”
We’re told the rest of the room is packed like sardines but I haven’t had the guts to go out there yet. Soon I’ll send my faithful Gunga Din, the lovely Doreen, to get us some beverages and she’ll hopefully bring back a report on the mood out in the crowd.
