We’ll wait for proof
I have in my hand 57 cases of individuals who would appear to be either card-carrying members or certainly loyal to the Communist Party, but who nevertheless are still helping to shape our foreign policy.
‘‘We have pushed for police and fire to be included with all other public employees. Bottom line is the unions have bought out several people and we can not get it put through. It has been very frustrating.’’ – State Rep. Chris Kapenga
‘‘There’s a reason why they are not being put in with the rest of the public employee unions,’’ he said. ‘‘I don’t know what that reason is.’’
– State Rep. Chris Kapenga in an interview with the Associated Press
If I had my preference, yes, police and firefighters should be included. However, as the governor has pointed out there was a definite public safety concern, and the protests in Madison have certainly borne that out. It’s also worth noting – again – that the majority of police and firefighter unions endorsed Governor Scott Walker’s opponent in the last election.
Perhaps Kapenga is right in feeling frustrated over the exemption given to the police and firefighter union members. But engaging in a paranoid style of politics and attacking your colleagues without any evidence is not going to serve your constituents well in the long term.
If the representative from Delafield, WI, is unable to substantiate his charges, perhaps he should refrain from slandering his colleagues.
